Cades Cove is the most-visited location in the Great Smoky Mountains and it’s also home to one of the largest campgrounds. The Cades Cove campground consists of 159 sites and is open year round. Tents and RVs up to 35 feet can be used in the campground.

The popular facility provides flush toilets, drinking water and a limited number of electric hook-ups. A store adjacent to the campground provides visitors with all of the basic neccessities they’ll need to enjoy their stay in the Smoky Mountains. It also provides bicycle rentals for those wishing to tour the Cades Cove loop road by pedaling. The best time to tour the cove by bike is from May through September as on Wednesday and Saturday mornings until 10 am cars are not allowed on the Cades Cove Loop Road.

There are numerous wonderful hiking trails that originate from the cove.  Shorter hikes include the 1-mile roundtrip to the Elijah Oliver Cabin and the 0.5 mile Cades Cove Nature Trail. If you prefer longer treks you can try  the five-mile roundtrip to Abrams Falls, one of the most popular trails in the park, or a 9-mile roundtrip hike to Gregory Bald.

In addition there is also a nearby horse stable that offers horseback rides and carriage rides from March thru October.

Some things to keep in mind if you decide to stay in the Cades Cove Campground include:

  • All food and items used to store or prepare food, including coolers, MUST be stored in the trunk or cab of your vehicle/s at all times when not in use.
  • Dispose of garbage promptly in bear-proof dumpsters.
  • Firewood Quarantines are in effect!
  • The possession of any firewood originating from any location for which a federal or state firewood quarantine is in effect is prohibited. The movement of firewood into the park from counties adjacent to the park for which a federal or state quarantine is in place is prohibited even if the quarantine allows for movement within the county.
  • Firewood which bears a USDA certificate or which is purchased from a park concessionaire is allowed.
  • There are no showers or electric, water or sewer hook-ups in the park. Some accessible sites have a 5 amp electric hookup for medical equipment use.
  • Quiet hours are in effect from 10 PM to 6 AM. Generator use is restricted to 8 AM to 8 PM. Some campgrounds have generator free sections.
  • Fires are allowed in fire rings only!
  • A maximum of 6 people may occupy a campsite. The park stay limit is 14 consecutive days. Reservations which exceed the 14 consecutive day limit may be cancelled and refunded.
  • Pets are permitted but cannot be left unattended. All pets must be kept on a leash at all times. Pets are not allowed on trails.
  • Cades Cove and Smokemont campgrounds are the only campgrounds open year round.
